Visual Arts Curriclum Overview
Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up.” - Pablo Picasso

All students in grades 1 through 8 take classroom art once a week with a certified art specialist. The classroom teacher teaches Art instruction for kindergarten children. The art program develops skills and knowledge upon which students can express themselves creatively; discover and foster artistic potential; and, enjoy a meaningful experience. The art curriculum consists of four major areas of study: aesthetics perception, creative expression, historical and cultural, and art criticism. Connections are often made to other subject areas, reinforcing concepts and skills throughout the curriculum.

At the high school level students may elect a variety courses in Foundations of Art, Art II and III, Studio/Portfolio Art, Advanced Placement Art, Ceramics I and II, and Graphic Arts Technology.  In the MIDI-ARTS Center at BF Brown, students learn to utilize the technology to research, communicate ideas, create and present art projects through the use of digital imaging, paint and draw programs and internet applications.
