The "Janet Cragin" Youth Arts Award through the Fitchburg Cultural Alliance
The Fitchburg Cultural Alliance (FCA) is pleased to announce the return of a program to recognize Fitchburg Public School youth in grades 6 through 8 for their outstanding achievement in the visual arts, performing arts and literary arts. The FCA started a similar program several years ago. We are bringing back this program in honor of Janet Cragin of the Stratton Playhouse, a founding member of the FCA and dedicated servant to the arts for more than 35 years.
The primary mission of the FCA is to promote the rich and diverse cultural activities that exist in the community. Recognizing and supporting youth in the arts has always been a major focus. For ten years the Fitchburg Cultural Alliance has provided scholarships for more than 60 middle school youth to attend the Boston Symphony Orchestra Days in the Arts Summer Camp program in collaboration with the Fitchburg Public Schools and the BSO.
The Janet Cragin Youth Arts Award will be given out to youth who demonstrate artistic and creative ability in the arts. Middle school faculty who teach creative writing, music, drama, visual arts and dance to nominate two students from each grade level for this award (a total of 6 students from each middle school). A formal celebration to recognize these students will take place Thursday, April 7, 2011, at the Fitchburg Public Library.
